The main task of the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management is to ensure that New Zealand and its communities are prepared for any natural and technological hazards or disasters. This is done by recognising the potential hazards and what these could do to us, developing measures for reducing the risks as well as managing the impacts when they occur. We mostly work with local government, utilities and the emergency services involved in civil defence management.
